Fresh is best!

I loooooooooooooove to eat out. Not just anywhere, though. And, nowadays I'm pretty picky about the kind of food I want to eat out. I like FRESH and local-tasting stuff.

Sure, sometimes I do the crazy drive-through thing and an occasional "so-so" meal, but MOST of the time I want food that tastes like somebody cared when they prepared it.

I have a few favorites around town that make me feel that way.

I'm 'onna post some of those places in future entries.

Happy eating to you all!

Bellingham, WA

If you've never had a lamb burger, go here...
Yuuuuuuuuuuummy!

Kalaloch, WA

Our family just returned from a trip to Kalaloch Lodge on the Washington coast.

We rented a two bedroom ocean-front cabin that has a kitchen. There's a restaurant on the premises, but we took all of our meals.

This year our week's meals were:

Polenta Patties with homemade basil pesto and gorgonzola, salad, bread
Beef Kielbasa, baked potatoes, salad and bread
Thai Chicken Wraps
Crock-Pot Roast Beef
(cooked for 22 hours), rice, roasted broccoli, crescent rolls
Homemade Pizza (Trader Joe's whole wheat crust, Jimmy Dean sausage crumbled and sauteed with garlic and Italian spices, red bell pepper, red onion and Italian blend cheese)

Sometimes we travel to taste lots of different foods and discover new restaurants, but we go to Kalaloch for the views and to relax, relax, relax.

Where it all began

My love of food began at this table about 48 years ago.

I've discovered that food is actually one of my hobbies. I enjoy fixin' it and I enjoy eatin' it.

And, I've discovered that when I travel, good food is more important to me than almost any other travel activity. I buy travel books and look for good food recommendations. Sometimes I agree with the writer. Sometimes not. Sometimes I know enough to bring my own food.

This blog will focus on food that makes me happy.
